Create USB image (requires Mac OS X (Snow) Leopard)
1. Insert USB stick, let it mount
2. Figure out Disk Indentifier (use Disk Utility), for example: disk4
3. Open Terminal: dd if=/dev/rdisk4 of=Desktop/usb.img bs=64k (replace rdisk4 with your Disk Indentifier, notice the r infront of disk4)
Output:
Cybexs-Mac-Pro:~ $ dd if=/dev/rdisk4 of=Desktop/usb.img bs=64k
30592+0 records in
30592+0 records out
2004877312 bytes transferred in 108.522985 secs (18474218 bytes/sec)
Restore USB image (via Microsoft Windows)
1. Insert USB stick
2. Download dd.exe
3. In a DOS box type: dd --list
4. Find the DEVICE path of your USB stick, see this example:
5. Use the first device line (\\?\Device\Harddisk1\Partition0), type: dd if=usb.img of=\\?\Device\Harddisk1\DR8 --progress bs=64k\\?\Device\Harddisk1\Partition0
link to \\?\Device\Harddisk1\DR8
Removable media other than floppy. Block size = 512
size is 2004877312 bytes
\\?\Device\Harddisk1\Partition1
link to \\?\Device\Harddisk1\DP(1)0-0+9
Removable media other than floppy. Block size = 512
size is 2004876800 bytes

Using the disk utility from OSX
has its draw backs because it will not copy any info from your boot loader
if you use this methode you will still nead to install a boot loader like chamelion . bootthink ect ect
IF YOU WANT TO MAKE RESTORE A IMAGE THAT CAN BOOT USE CARBON CLONER.
Gigabyte GA-EP43-UD3L Q6600 ATI 3870 512MB
Asus P5N7A-VM E5200
Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD7 I7 920 nvidia 285 1GB
IPortable OSX86 AMD Snow inprogress
